What I Learned From My Mother About The Power Of Giving For most of my life I didn’t imagine myself as a philanthropist. The image of “philanthropist” conjured images of a stodgy older white man, splashing his name up on a university building, a new performing arts center, or a hospital wing. But working as an advocate and fundraiser on behalf of women and girls has drastically changed my understanding of what it means to be a philanthropist. I’ve discovered that I am, indeed, a philanthropist – and that being one has dramatically advanced my leadership.
