The Glory Of Malala: Improving The Condition Of Women In The World
The Glory Of Malala: Improving The Condition Of Women In The World Last week two things happened: one purely personal, the other global. Both share a common thread. My eldest grand-daughter, Clara, got her GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) results: spectacular! 10 A’s/A+’s, 1 B (statistics!) Needless to say we, her family and friends, are all terribly happy and very proud. At the same time news came that the young Pakistani girl, Nobel Peace Laureate and victim of an assassination attempt, Malala Yousafzai had obtained her results – straight A’s/A+’s. This was a source of tremendous pride and joy to her father,Ziauddin Yousafzai, and her mother, Toor Pekai, who tweeted the news to the world. Indeed, in light of her personal circumstances and a particularly ugly aspect of the state of the planet, Malala’s achievement marks a much-needed victory for humanity.
