He chided another commenter who suggested, “Immediately begin networking.” McLaren-Stewart took issue: “I think any subsequent connection you make comes across as insincere because you immediately need something from that person. Instead, focus on generating meaningful connections throughout your career... Spend time doing what you can to help others and then you'll have a much easier time calling on your connections in your hour of need!”
