It might sound glamorous, but very few of us can really conceive of the brutal physical demands of winemaking---let alone the logistical challenges of childcare during harvest---a 24/7 workload in wine country. Harvest season is upon us and it's always interesting to peek behind the curtain and witness how things unfold. Winemaker mommies (and daddies) have to engage in some serious juggling this time of year. Some feel as if they are “barely staying in control” while others risk speeding tickets to get home in time for a goodnight kiss. Grapes wait for no one during harvest---naps, carpools and story time included. Some enlist the help of their older children, others rely on a small army of friends and family to keep things in control and others just park the playpen by the crushpad and get on with it.
